
MEET SAMIRA SOHAIL
Product Leader & Investor
Samira is a product leader and investor with over 15 years of experience building and scaling products across continents. From launching video streaming at BBC to leading product at a unicorn edtech company, she has a proven track record of innovation.
Currently, Samira is the CEO of Luxo Beta, a studio that invests in and builds startups. Previously, she witnessed the rise of the internet firsthand, working at the BBC during a time of digital transformation. There, she spearheaded digital formats for BBC News and livestreamed the 2012 Olympics.
Later, in New York, she became Product Director at Newsela, an education technology company used in 90% of US schools. During the pandemic, she led the product shift to an at-home learning solution, resulting in a 4x user surge.
Samira is also an active investor. She invests in early-stage startups herself and behalf of family offices. She mentors founders and advocates for better representation in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) fields.
Driven by a global mindset, Samira embraces lifelong learning. After graduating with a Math degree from Cambridge, she studied French at the Sorbonne. She champions creative sabbaticals and remote work, experiences that include producing a podcast in Bali and becoming a yoga teacher in Hawaii.
Samira is a thought leader who speaks at international conferences and is featured in the press. She is passionate about education and philanthropy, serving on the board of the Griffith Observatory Foundation and as a guest lecturer at Pepperdine University.
